Easy Club Runs

Our new club secretary Jasmine Sharp has offered to lead a casual club run each sunday from the Menai Bridge 9.30am start  from 23rd October for those either new to cycling with the club or for those wishing to cycle at a gentler pace. The plan is to do 2 hour ride.

05/09/2011 - Message from John

Once again I must start with some bad news, particularly for those budding grimpers out there. The Club was due to hold a two stage hill climb competition next weekend on the Drws y Coed and Groeslon climbs. Unfortunately we have not been able to meet with specific Police requirements and guarantees that would enable us to stage the races, and therefore have been forced to cancel.

On a personal note. As everyone will know by now, Jasmine Sharp has taken over the role of Club Secretary. I'd like to thank Jasmine for taking over from me at a time when I have been unable to give the time that the Club Secretaries position requires. I had hoped to move the Club forward and develop it into a Club known far beyond the local area and for the names of a few more of its riders, it can be done......Give Jasmine your full support and help her in any way you can to move the Club forwards.......I will!!

And finally. Have a look at this  http://youtu.be/fO3Rc8q_PMw  I was thinking of something new and exciting to do. The person who can tell me where this has been shot will receive a small gift the next time I see them. I know where it is, you have my e-mail address........

Cheers,

John

30/08/2011 - Club Kit Order - We have sent a letter and order form out to all members to try and get a kit order in by 15th September. Please respond to this as soon as you receive it.

Club Secretary - We have had a change of club secretary in the last few days. Due to work and family commitments John Keightley has asked if we could pass on the role of secretary to someone else. We are fortunate that Jasmine Sharp has agreed to take on this role for the current time. Many thanks to John for all his hard work and hope that work and family commitments will let us see him out on his bike in the near future.

14/05/2011 - Due to lack of use, we are thinking of dropping the clubs forum as its a lot of work if nobody is going to make use of it.  Have asked the question on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_201038913269548&ap=1 .  Please click on and give your opinion, why not join the group while you are there.

11/05/2011 - We have had to CANCEL the 10 mile TT at Aberdesash due to multiple sets of road works on the course. We plan to re-schedule it for later in the summer and will confirm the date next week. Sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment, but I guess these things sometimes happen......

17/04/2011 - We are on Facebook, yet another form of communication.  http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_201038913269548&ap=1

31/03/2011 - Just a quick call to arms. This year we as a Club are organizing seven road events, not a bad number for a Club of our size (47 paid up members to date). Last year when I was organizing events for the first time, I came up against the age old problem in getting people to volunteer and help marshal road events on behalf of the Club. Here I am again in 2011 putting the same request for volunteers. Listed below are the dates, events, start location and the number of marshals required to run the event. Please take a look at the list and come back to me on or before 17th April with which event(s) you can help out at.

Your time will be appreciated, as without your help and as discussed at the recent AGM, if we all do not take turns with volunteering to marshal at these events, then they will not be run!

12th May     Mon Arfon League 10 mile TT     Aberdesach @ 7.00pm   5 marshals req'd.

19th May     Energy Cycles 23 mile TT          Llanfair @ 7.00pm         6 marshals req'd.

1st June      GCA 20 mile TT                        Aberdesach @ 7.00pm  7 marshals req'd.

19th June    Energy Cycles 23 mile TT           Llanfair @ 10.30am       6 marshals req'd.

23rd June    Mon Arfon 8 mile TT                  Aberdesach @ 7.00pm   5 marshals req'd.

21st July     ECC Summer Hill Climb               Trevor @ 7.00pm          4 marshals req'd.

11th Sept   ECC Two Stage Hill Climbs

                Drws y Coed @ 10.30am and Groeslon @ 12.00 noon   6 marshals in total req'd.

Please don't leave this request until the last moment, choose your date early to avoid disappointment.......

Cheers,
John

08/03/2011 - News from John.

At the end of January, Gwynfor James took a flyer whilst descending off Moel Siabod in icy conditions. He's broken his ankle and has a talar shift, which is a serious injury. I'm sure he'll be up and running again soon, and that you'll join me in wishing him well and getting better soon.

For those Club members who fancy a Social Sunday Ride, a ride that's going to be about forty miles (depending on who turns up and where folks would like to go) at a steady pace, no sprinting for road signs or powering up climbs, but starting together, riding together and finishing together. Then this could be for you. The first one will be on Sunday 27th March  at 10.30am outside Spar on the Maes in Caernarfon. I'll be there and I hope to see you there....... Any questions please contact me.

Anyone who needs Club clothing please contact me with your requirements, I'm hoping to put an order in before the end of March. Apologies to anyone who has put a request in for kit, I haven't forgotten you., but our supplier needs more of a order before he can justify putting a production of our kit into action.

This coming weekend the Aberystwyth Club are having a Spring Training weekend in Snowdonia. Their base is at Swallow Falls, outside Betws y Coed. Their first ride is on Saturday and starts off at 9.30am. For the route detail please see  http://www.mapmyfitness.com/routes/view/26997656 . We are all invited to join them for all or part of the ride, please make our Southern Friends welcome and show them a hard time......

The start of the Road season if fast approaching, with the Clwb Rasio Mona 1km time trial over at Llangefni kicking off the time trials on Sunday 27th March www.freewebs.com/crm_results, and for the Road Men and Women, the Energy Cycles/Island Games Road Race on the Bodffordd, Llanerchymedd, Trefor course on Sunday 10th April (www.tlicycling.org.uk). Good luck to all our competitors for the forth coming season and may your aspirations come true.

For those of us who have ventured across to the Emerald Isle we know what stunning scenery and fantastic roads its has to offer. Dewi and I are putting plans together for a day trip over to Southern Ireland and into the Wicklow Mountains National Park. The plan is to have two routes, one for a fast group of riders and one for a not so fast group of riders. With different distances involved and a meeting for a cafe stop before heading back to the ferry and home. We are trying to get a deal with the ferry companies and will let Club members know the final details over the coming month. At the moment the Club has a surplus of cash to pay something towards the ferry tickets. This offer is open to all Club members, so please take this opportunity and hopefully have a great Club day out together. At the moment we are looking at a Sunday in mid-May , the exact date will be confirmed along with the other details mentioned earlier. Please think about this and let Dewi or myself know if this floats your boat.

I know that the end of August is a long way off, but I'm please to see that the 2011 Wild Wales Challenge is back on the calendar. This year it will be on Sunday 28th August and cover approx 84 miles. Its not a race, but certainly will be a "Challenge", covering some fantastic roads around North and Mid Wales. This years route details will be made available nearer the time, but take a look at the web site and if your up for a great day out on your bike exploring roads that you wouldn't normally ride on, this could be for you. Take a look at this for details www.merseysidectc.com . Thanks to Dave Thomas for bringing this to my attention.

And finally, but most important is that we have two new members to the Club. Alun Williams from Caernarfon who has been a regular at the Turbo Sessions, and young Darragh Beck from Llanllyfni. A warm welcome to you both from all of us at Energy Cycles Club.
