Club Things, April 20140

Another month is over and a new one begins. Its April, the weather continues to improve and the local time trial season has started.

The Club Rasio Mona (Tuesday evening, weekly) and Hollyhead Cycling Club (Thursday evening, bi-weekly & some weekends) time trials started this week. Later this month the first of the Mon Arfon League (MAL) series of time trials begins with HCC 10 mile time trial at Dalar on 17th April. The following week will be second MAL event, the CRM 10 mile time trial at Llanfairpwll on 22nd April. For the full details of these events, please go to the individual clubs web sites. Please note that all six events in this series are “entry on the night”, so just turn up, sign on, pay your entry fee, and race. If you haven’t competed before, these time trials are an ideal way to start, and all being 10 miles in distance are not beyond most peoples capabilities. Come along and give it a go, you may just surprise yourself.

The results are in for the first of CRM time trials, the 3.80 mile from Llanfairpwll. The Energy Cycles lads can walk tall once again, with Gareth McGuinness taking first overall and five ECC riders in the top seven. Interesting, but with the exception of Gareth, those other riders all attended this winters turbo sessions, and improved their personal bests over the distance.  Is it me and I’m just reading something into the result….. Keep performing like that Gentlemen and you’ll have a very rewarding season.

The Youth & Junior road racing members of the Club began their racing for 2014 over at Marsh Tracks, Rhyl. Despite it being very new to them all and a steep learning curve, they have performed very well and produced excellent results. Carwyn Morris finished 2nd, and 3rd on two occasions. It won’t be long before Carwyn is standing on the top step of the podium.  The advise that Sir Dave Brailsford gave young Huw Owen last month certainly worked, he took 3rd and 4th in his events.  Junior member Gwydion Roberts soon settled in to racing with the senior cat riders by taking 12th in his second race at Marsh Tracks in what were very difficult racing conditions. Well done lads, lets see what you can do out there during April.

The April edition of the “Cycling Events Calendar” will be sent to your e-mail accounts this weekend, and includes even more events for you to possibly include in your plans for 2014. If you are aware of any events that you feel should be included, please let me know and they will be included in the May edition

The Turbo Training Sessions at The Beacon Climbing Centre have now finished for this winter period. I would like to thank everyone who came along and attended the twenty weeks of tough training. I know that some folks have said that they could see and feel the difference it had made to their road cycling. I hope that you have managed to achieve what you were aiming for this year. Lets see if you can transfer it to the road, during 2014.

The very popular Wednesday evening “recovery” rides will start again on Wedneday 16th April, from the Plas Silyn Sports Centre in Penygroes. Start time 6.00pm, route and approx distance to be decided on the night. Please ensure you have a working set of lights on your bike until the end of April, particularly if riding home afterwards as it will still be getting dark quite early. All Club members are welcome.

I have received a revised date for the delivery of the Club kit for 2014. The supplier tells me that it will now be with us week commencing 28th April. As soon as it arrives I will let everyone know.

And finally. The Club would like to give a warm welcome to new members, Dafydd Williams, Neil Garton Williams and cycling couple Steph Duits and Tom Hutton who joined our ranks during March. Please make them all feel at home and welcome in the Club.

Till next time……..
