Energy Cycling Club’s Gwynedd Cycling Association 15 mile TT, 5th August 20150

Well another event on the Pontllyfni coast road that was dominated by talk of weather conditions.

Despite the rain holding off, the wind was blowing ferociously from the south (as opposed to off the sea as usual!!) and straight into faces of the competitors on the outward leg to Llanaelhaearn.

Despite the wind, 19 brave souls faced the time keeper for an exciting fight with the elements on this sporting course, and a fight it was. To quote some of the riders after the race “At times I was going less than 10mph on the way out, and over 40mph coming back!!”

This was a new course using a road well used for Energy Cycling Club time trials. It was going to be interesting to see what the fastest times would be in comparison to the “16” that was used for this GCA event in 2014.

With the likes of local fast men Gerallt Roberts, Garry Ellis and Gareth McGuinness from the organising club, and youngsters Huw Owen and Jack Williams from the Junior Road Team taking on some of the well established riders from the visiting clubs, this was going to an interesting evening of hard racing.

And the competitors didn’t disappoint, with Gareth McGuinness taking 1st overall (and 9 seconds faster than his 16 mile time in 2014, on the similar course), Garry Ellis in 2nd, and Gerallt Roberts in 3rd (and 34 seconds faster than his 16 mile time in 2014). Fastest Veteran was Wayne “The Train” Owen. Fastest Veteran on Standard was Alun Williams. Fastest Lady was Gwenno Hughes ( Lady’s, were are you, and why aren’t you competing in events like these?). Fastest Junior was Jack Williams (and 3 minutes, 7 seconds faster than his 16 mile time in 2014!!!). And Fastest Youth was Huw Owen. A superb result all round for the riders of the organising club.

Thanks to everyone who braved the wind and rode, some of these riders having come a long way to compete, and to those folk who helped me out with the marshalling. Thanks goes to Osian, Carwyn, and Huw Williams for doing a sterling job of directing the riders round the turn at Llanaelhaearn, to Rob who once again did a great job as “pusher off” at the start, and to Ruth for ensuring you signed on and received the correct number. And last but not leased, Dylan Williams of CRM who checked and double my figures to ensure there were no blushes on my part. Thank you all!!

The full results, including the inter clubs competition will be issued by Dylan in due course.

The next event, and final one of the GCA Series is Clwb Beicio Dwyfor’s 10 mile time trial at Llanystumdwy on 25st August. See you there…..
